Yes, You Can Go Skiing In Australia – And These Are The Best Places To Check Out

The sun. The sand. The spiders. Of course, we’re talking about Australia. While it’s the heat that usually gets people talking across the nation, it turns out that yes, you can go skiing in Australia – and these are the best places to check out.

Mount Baw Baw – Victoria

Perhaps you’re looking for a family-friendly ski resort in Australia? Mount Baw Baw could be the answer. There are several easier trails that are perfect for all abilities, as well as a host of cross-country trails and two terrain parks for those wanting to push things a little bit further. Being just a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Melbourne means it’s also a worthwhile day trip for those looking for a way to spend some time outdoors.

Ben Lomond – Tasmania

Tasmania in the winter months is unlike anything many of us have ever seen. One of the best things about Ben Lomond is it’s relatively untouched as there are few visitors that fill the slopes. People need to rely on snow chains or a shuttle bus to get to the mountain, and it’s not the biggest ski resort in Australia. However, Ben Lomond is a lot cheaper for that reason and offers up incredible scenic views of the landscape that can’t be found anywhere else.

Falls Creek – Victoria

Being the largest ski resort in Victoria means that Falls Creek is a popular choice for people of all abilities. There are plenty of places to stay around the mountains for all those aprés ski sessions, while the live music and food served at the bottom of the slopes is enough to keep people fuelled and having a good time. To top it off, there are 65 trails that cater to every type of skier and snowboarder.

Thredbo – New South Wales

If you want to enjoy the highest peak, then you might want to check out Thredbo. As if that wasn’t enough, the ski resort in New South Wales also has the longest run in the country, thanks to the Crackenback Super Trail that runs for three miles. In total, there are 54 runs that are serviced by 14 lifts and complete with a lively village at the base to enjoy after a long day on the slopes.

Perisher – New South Wales

Believe it or not, but Perisher is the largest ski resort found in the Southern hemisphere, meaning there is always plenty to see and do. The 47 lifts take people across the mountains for a day on the snow, but that’s not all that keeps people coming back. It turns out that Perisher also hosts night skiing two days a week throughout the snow season, meaning you can enjoy skiing with a difference.

It turns out you really can go skiing in Australia, and there is no shortage of ski resorts on the menu. Who would have thought? As if that wasn’t enough, skiing in Australia is unlike hitting the slopes anywhere else in the world and definitely something to write home about as you enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
