You might be someone who enjoys a bit of surprise when they go on vacation. However, it’s worth knowing a few things about where you’re going so that you don’t feel completely overwhelmed once you arrive. That’s especially the case if you’re traveling to somewhere like Paraguay, where there are plenty of amazing things to see and do.

Visit the Jesuit ruins
If somewhere has a UNESCO World Heritage site, it’s usually worth visiting. Paraguay has several in the form of Jesuit ruins from the 17th and 18th centuries. These sites don’t attract as much attention as some of the more famous ones out there, meaning you probably won’t have to worry about crowds when you visit. That means you can learn about local history and snap plenty of shots without dealing with a bunch of other tourists.

Explore the Chaco Boreal
The Chaco Boreal isn’t for the fainthearted. With temperatures often around 100 degrees Fahrenheit and creatures like jaguars and snakes stalking the area, you have to be prepared for a challenge. If that’s what you like on vacation, though, then this region is definitely worth visiting. It might be worth contacting the Three Giants Lodge so that you can spend time at their biological station and hike around the area. You’ll see all sorts this way and hopefully feel safer doing it too.

Attend the Transchaco Rally
If you’re a fan of motor sports and the post-apocalyptic ‘Mad Max’ films then the Transchaco Rally is an event in Paraguay that you won’t want to miss. It spans three days and sees vehicles traverse grueling terrain that covers more than 1,000 miles. If you wish to attend, you’ll need to plan your vacation around it, especially as it’s one of the country’s most popular events. People really love seeing how these cars cope with the challenges that the rally puts in front of them.

Learn to weave Ñandutí
Ñandutí is embroidered lace made by some of Paraguay’s indigenous people. Every year, Itagua holds a festival where people can learn how to make it themselves, something that’s worthwhile if you want to go home with a new skill. You can create some beautiful pieces with Ñandutí, so you definitely won’t waste your time doing this. However, it’s worth noting that it does require patience, and depending on what you make, it can take days to finish.

See the beauty of Iguazu Falls
South American countries really don’t disappoint when it comes to waterfalls. This part of the world has some truly breathtaking water features, including Iguazu Falls. Located on the border of several countries, this wonder consists of close to 300 waterfalls that will leave you speechless. You’ll probably get a bit wet and won’t be able to hear much over the water, but it’ll be worth it for the beauty you’ll witness.
Paraguay has so many beautiful locations and incredible events that it can be hard to do everything that you want in one vacation. That just gives you more reason to come back again, though.
