While winter isn’t everyone’s favorite time of year, for some people, it’s the perfect excuse to hit the slopes. With lots of amazing ski slopes to choose from, we’ve picked the best ski resorts for adrenaline junkies in the world.
Courchevel – France
Courchevel comes with an upmarket reputation, but there’s much more to this resort than style. There is also substance in the form of the world-class slopes that even the most experienced skiers can have fun on. Skiers can enjoy the 370 miles of slopes that are interconnected across 10 different peaks. Even the off-piste slopes are a joy to behold. Then the apres-ski is as fancy as you may have expected, with a choice of five villages and seven Michelin-starred restaurants.
Vail Mountain Resort – Colorado
Vail Mountain Resort is one of the largest in the world, and it’s certainly Colorado’s biggest. There is plenty of terrains to keep people entertained and well-maintained runs. From the top of the slopes you overlook the fancy restaurants and hotels down below, along with the picturesque town of Vail itself. The slopes are kept in fine shape all year round, and some of the powder snow is as challenging as anywhere else in the world.
Val d’Isere – France
After Jean-Claude Killy took an amazing three gold medals at the 1968 Winter Olympics, Val d’Isere was on the skiing map. There are over 150 ski lifts servicing these wonderful slopes, with altitudes as high as 3,450 meters and plenty of runs to choose from.
The great thing about Val d’Isere is that due to its altitude, it gets snow all the way through until late spring. So even as the summer approaches, you can still hit the slopes one last time before it’s too late. Skiing can be challenging here if you want it to be, although it is also great for skiers of all levels.
Whistler Blackcomb – Canada
Whistler Blackcomb combines two mountains to make it the premier spot for skiing in Canada. The resort is the largest winter sports areas in North America with over 200 different runs to be enjoyed by visitors. You can ski here at any time of the year, and it offers views that go all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Families, experts, and casual skiers can all find something for them both on the snow and in the village.
Zermatt – Switzerland
The amazing backdrop of the Matterhorn makes Zermatt one of the best places to ski in the world. It’s not just about the views though, the slopes are impressive too. You can ski at any time of the year and even pass from Switzerland to Italy on one of the trail slopes. For a real challenge you can try the Haute Route, which is a mountaineering route that lasts eight days from Zermatt to Chamonix.
There are plenty of places to ski in the world, but it’s hard to argue that these locations wouldn’t make it to the top of most people’s bucket lists.
