With so many states to contend with, AccuRadio decided to use their team of Christmas elves to do some digging for them. They’ve found out which states have the best Christmas spirit, and which ones will be getting a lump of coal in their stockings. Let’s start at the most festive of them all, shall we?

Washington, D.C

Coming in at number one is our Nation’s Capital, although not technically a state. That’s gotta be something to be proud of, right? While many people find Washington, D.C to be full of history and politics, it seems as though the little district really comes alive during the holiday season. The White House looks even more imposing amongst the gray sky, the trees are laden with twinkling lights, and everyone seems to slow down a little bit.

Washington D.C is full of amazing light shows and events during the Christmas festivities, and there’s definitely no shortage of things to do. It seems as though all of this rolled into one turkey sandwich makes the people of Washington, D.C pretty full of festive spirit. Congratulations on your gold medal!

Pennsylvania

The saying goes that first is the worst and second is the best, so what do you think about that, Pennsylvania natives? Taking the silver medal as the second state in the country with the best Christmas spirit is Pennsylvania, and that’s probably not hard to believe. After all, this state is not only home to the city of Bethlehem, but this place has also been given the nickname of The Christmas City!

It seems as though everyone here loves the holiday season, and they are more than willing to spread their Christmas cheer among the others who live near them. Lights are everywhere, children are caroling, and there are more than enough Christmas trees to start their very own forest. If you’re looking for some extra cheer this holiday period, a trip to Pennsylvania might just be on the Christmas cards.

Tennessee

We’d love to say that the people of Tennessee have the most Christmas cheer because they’re the only ten we see, but that would be a bit too cheesy – even for us. However, they do come in third place as the state with the third-highest amount of Christmas spirit, and that’s something to be proud of.

Tennessee is home to so many amazing cities and attractions, whether you want to check out the Great Smoky Mountains in all of their snowy glory, whether you want to go walking in Memphis and check out Elvis’s Graceland, or if you want to check out the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. You can guarantee that the cowgirls and cowboys around these parts will happily sing you a Christmas song in their country twang. All you have to do is ask.

Washington

We can imagine that when Santa flies his sleigh over Washington on Christmas Eve, he’s pretty happy with the amount of festive cheer going around. In fact, he probably can’t even control his sleigh it’s so Christmassy over there. If you’re from Washington yourself, you’ll probably know all about it. That’s because the people in Washington love to get themselves fully prepared for the big day…

So they adorn their towns and cities with all kinds of string lights, trees, and decorations, and they even have countless Christmas Lighting Festivals to boot. Of course, anyone who has been to Washington will know that the piece-de-resistance of any Christmas festivity is the Victorian Country Christmas festival, which offers everything you could possibly think of and more. Who wouldn’t want to transport themselves into the Christmas Carol story?

Ohio

It seems as though Washington isn’t the only state in the US who likes to transport its citizens back in time during the Christmas period because Ohio offers something fairly similar. Yes, you know what we’re talking about. The Dickens Victorian Village is a hive of activity in December, and that’s before you get to all of the other activities.

From Christmas candle lighting to train displays, there’s a high chance that the people of this state may go a little overboard when it comes to the decorations and lights. While we would normally be against all of the light pollution, you have to make an exception during the Christmas period, right? After all, Santa needs to know where to park up his sleigh, and these lights serve as their very own landing strip. Good job, Ohio.

Massachusetts

If you’re familiar with US history, you’ll know that Massachusetts is one of the most historical places in the whole country. After all, this state became the first official Pilgrim settlement, and this changed the course of American history. Due to the fact that these Pilgrims were strict Puritans, they actually weren’t too fond of Christmas. Because of this, they banned the holiday completely and made it punishable for anyone to celebrate the festive period.

This continued until the mid-1800s when the ban was finally lifted, and people were able to get into the Christmas spirit once more. Since then, it seems as though the people of Massachusetts have been doing everything they possibly can to make up for their lost Christmas time – and they know how to throw a festive shindig.

Missouri

One of the best things about Christmas in Missouri? It’s totally still acceptable to eat BBQ whenever you want, and that’s all we need to be totally sold. If you live in Missouri, you might not be too surprised to learn that you are pretty high up on the list of Christmas spirit. After all, you guys seem to love this holiday!

Every year, this state pulls out all the stops to ensure that kids and adults alike have the best time during this festive period, and there are so many things to do. Whether you want to head to a remote, snow-laden lodge, whether you want to check out the light shows and parades that make their way around the state, or whether you want to drive through Santa’s Magical Kingdom, you could do something new every single day.

Alabama

We know that Christmas is a time for cheer, but we’re also here to spread some serious Christmas knowledge. Yes, did you know that Alabama was actually the first state in the whole of the US to declare that Christmas day was a legal holiday? This law was passed in 1836, and they have since made every effort to ensure that they uphold this law and make it worth their while.

There are so many amazing towns who pull out all the stops in terms of their Christmas decorations, and even those who don’t decorate their houses soon realize that it’s time for some festive cheer when they step out of their home and see all of the lights in front of them. Alabama is also home to Candyland, so we probably don’t need to say any more…

Iowa

One of the best things about celebrating Christmas in Iowa is the fact that there are so many different event options for you to choose from. You can head out to the smaller towns and check out what they’re doing in terms of their light festivals and their parades, or you can utilize your top-notch festive cheer and head into the city.

Iowa City itself is home to people who all want to share in the festivities, and it’s fair to say that there are events for every person and their dog – quite literally! The Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center are always looking for people to visit during the festive period to give their animals some love and some presents, and that’s because you even venture into the realm of other activities. There’ll be music, dancing, drinking, and more.

Mississippi

When you think of Mississippi, you probably go through the alphabet in your head and try to work out how to spell it first of all, but then you probably think of the warm weather in this state. So, it must be pretty hard for the people of the Magnolia State to get into the Christmas spirit without the cold temperatures, right?

Well, not quite. As you can see, Mississippi takes the tenth spot on this list and takes the biscuit as one of the best states in the US for Christmas spirit, and it seems as though the people love this holiday. There are so many amazing things to do during the festive period in Mississippi, and there’s no doubt about the fact that the Night of Lights and Harbor Lights in Cleveland and Gulfport are two of them.

West Virginia

Just missing out on a top ten spot is West Virginia, but eleventh place is still pretty nifty – so you should be proud of that, West Virginia. If you’re the kind of person that loves Christmas, but your home state is way down on this list, then it might be an idea to head to this state to see what’s poppin’.

Thankfully, there’s no shortage of festivities, because this place is teeming with attractions and events that will keep you smiling through the Christmas period. You can head to the likes of Harpers Ferry and check out their Old Thyme Christmas extravaganza, you can make your way to Charleston to check out the Christmas parade, or you can wonder at the light festivals around the state. In short, there’s oodles of stuff to see and do.

New York

Christmas in New York, can you really beat it? Well, it seems as though eleven other states did beat it, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t any less impressive. While there’s certainly a huge amount to do in this state during the festive period, most people head into the Big Apple when they really want to feel the festive cheer.

That’s because there is so much to see and do in New York City, and it’s often considered to be one of the most magical places in the world during the holidays. That’s because the temperatures drop, the snow often starts to fall, the big tree outside the Rockefeller Center lights up the ice rink below, and everyone is wrapped up all snug in their layers. As if that wasn’t enough, it has some of the best Christmas shopping in the country!

Maine

Christmas is considered to be one of the most wonderful times of the year, and it’s fair to say that the people of Maine definitely know how to bring that magic to life. If you don’t live in Maine but want to check out what Christmas festivities they have on offer, then you should probably book yourself a month-long vacation – because you’re going to need it!

Maine has so many sights to behold, but there are a few that really stand out from the crowd. Everyone needs to visit the famous Boothbay Lights Festival, and then make their way to Gardens Aglow, the Annual Gingerbread Spectacular – which is just as amazing as it sounds – and then take a ride on the North Pole Express. It’s no wonder that Maine is still pretty high up on the list of the states with the best Christmas spirit.

Colorado

When you think of Christmas, you think of snow, right? Well, where better to get snow than in the state that has some of the most famous ski resorts in the world? Colorado is a winter wonderland during most of the winter months, but it really comes alive during the festive period. The snow and the mountains create the perfect backdrop for those who want to feel festive.

And it seems as though sliding down a mountain on one or two planks of wood really gets people groovin’ for the holidays. All of these amazing mountain towns fill up with even more lights, music, dancing, and drinking, and if you head to Durango, you can even take a ride on the Polar Express train! Colorado is just one hypothetical mug of warm cocoa – with extra marshmallows, of course.

Oregon

Known for its Wild West past, most people think of cowboys when they think of Oregon. However, it seems as though the people who live here ditch their boots and their horses in favor of sleds and reindeer during the holiday period, because the people of Oregon sure know how to celebrate this festive season.

Every single town, city, and village in this state will celebrate Christmas in one way or another, whether that’s by adorning their streets with twinkling lights, popping Christmas trees up in front of their town halls, or just caroling around the houses. Of course, no trip to Oregon during the festive season would be complete without heading into the snow-laden forest and taking a ride in Santa’s sleigh with his very own rein-dogs. What could be better than that?

North Carolina

Do you live in North Carolina? What do you think of this ranking? Well, we have a feeling that you’ll be pretty happy with the fact that you’re pretty high up the list because it seems as though you guys really do love Christmas. This state is incredibly well-equipped to deal with the holiday season, and there’s an abundance of things to see, do, and experience during this magical time of the year.

Whether you just want to drive down the street to check out the Christmas trees and the lights, or whether you want to head into the stores to stock up on your presents, North Carolina has it all. However, if we were to suggest anything, we’d say that you just had to take part in the Annual National Gingerbread House Competition. You just have to.

Rhode Island

Rhode Island might not be the first place you think of when you think of Christmas festivities, but you’ll be happy to know that this place is full of festive spirit! This state transforms into a magical wonderland when the temperature begins to drop, and Santa begins to warm up his sleigh, and there are countless activities for you to sink your teeth into.

If you make your way to Providence and check out the PVD Winter Lights Market and Tree Lighting, you can see what the Festival Ballet has on offer, or you could even walk around the Winter Festival at Carousel Village. The Christmas vibes will have you feeling well and truly wonderful, so there’s no doubt about the fact that you’ve got a good state, Rhode Island.

Virginia

The holiday season is a chance for you to spend time with your family and embrace the ultimate festive cheer, and where better to do that then Virginia? This state has often been pretty colonial in terms of its history and its traditions, but they’ve certainly taken things up a notch in recent years. While you can check out classic carollers busting out traditional hymns, you can also make the most of some new and modern inventions – such as the iconic Reston Holiday Parade!

There’s nothing better than getting together with your family and a whole host of others who are super pumped for Christmas and celebrating all together with music, singing, dancing, and some seriously bright lights. If you’re from Virginia, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about, and you’re probably pretty happy to see your state so high on the list.

Oklahoma

Although we’re nearing the middle of the list right now, there’s no doubt about the fact that the people of Oklahoma have some serious Christmas spirit going on. These guys always make sure that they prepare for the festive season in so many different ways, which is why they have oodles of options for people to enjoy.

You can take a water taxi and check out the lights on the trees in Bricktown, you can skate your way around the countless ice rinks dotted across the state, you can take a drive through Yukon’s Christmas Park, and, of course, no trip to Oklahoma would be complete without a trip to North Pole City. Where else are you going to get your Christmas gifts and decorations? It’s the ultimate Christmas store.

Indiana

While many people head to Indiana each year to see racing drivers whizz around a track, it seems as though many people also make their way to Indiana to get their Christmas spirit on. That’s because this state is known for putting on some pretty epic Christmas shindigs, and while there are some Scrooges out there, there are also many people on the nice list.

So, what is there to do in Indiana? Well, it seems as though Indianapolis is the real place to be when it comes to festivities because there are so many fun activities and so many attractions to see. This includes the famous Circle of Lights, Carmel Christkindlmarkt, and the Festival of Trees. Maybe if you take a Scrooge along with you, you can persuade them to love Christmas…

Arizona

Just missing out on the top 20 spot – but still in the “nice” half of this list rather than the “naughty” side of this list – is Arizona. If you’re from Arizona, you’ll be happy to know that the world sees you as fairly festive people, but it seems as though your Christmas spirit could maybe do with some work. Of course, it must be hard to get into the Christmas spirit when you’re surrounded by desert, intense heat, and cacti, but it seems as though these guys have found a way around this.

They put their best Santa hats on their biggest cacti, they dress them up in string lights, and they spread some jolly ol’ festive cheer around their homes. Before too long, this spreads into the whole neighborhood, and before you know it, everyone is singing carols and drinking Eggnog.

South Dakota

Everyone knows that South Dakota is a pretty big deal in the United States of America. After all, it’s home to Mount Rushmore! While the people here are pretty proud of their heritage and their country, it seems as though they might need a little bit more festive cheer in their lives. Thankfully, there’s more than enough to keep everyone entertained during the holiday period in this state, and they’re all pretty awesome.

Of course, no festive period in South Dakota would be complete without making your way to the Winter Wonderland at Falls Park, and then you just have to check out all of the amazing Christmas trees that can be found outside houses, inside houses, around impressive monuments and attractions, and just about anywhere they can stick a tree.

Arkansas

While we will never get over the fact that the pronunciation of Arkansas is not the same as the way that you say Kansas, we do have to acknowledge the fact that the people of Arkansas do alright when it comes to their Christmas spirit. While they’re not the best, they’re also not the worst – so that’s not too bad at all.

Whether you live in Arkansas or whether you just travel there to visit family in the holidays, you’ll be happy to know that there are various ways for you to keep your Christmas cheer alive. You can ice skate on frozen ice, you can check out the Morrilton Trail of Holiday Lights, and you can even take a dip in a hot spring. That combines Christmas cheer and the wonder of the Natural State all in one.

New Mexico

If you have ever been to New Mexico, you’ll know that it’s not quite like some of the other states in the United States. It’s surrounded by desert, and it’s shrouded in Spanish architecture that sometimes makes it look as though it’s from another world. The landscape is certainly incredible, but it doesn’t exactly benefit the kind of environment you need to get excited about the holiday season. There’s no cold winters, there’s no snow, and there’s certainly no big trees to cover in lights.

However, that doesn’t stop some people in New Mexico from really getting into the spirit of things. They manage to find space for their giant Christmas trees, and the people here just love to adorn their houses and other buildings with candles that light up the whole state. It’s truly a sight to behold.

Minnesota

Sitting at the half-way point between the best and the worst states in terms of their Christmas spirit is Minnesota, and we have to commend the people here for their effort. After all, those trees are spectacular. While there are a few more Scrooges here than we would like, there’s no doubt about the fact that there are others in Minnesota who really do love to get into the holiday spirit – and it shows.

In fact, this state is home to the largest free walk-through lighting display in the whole country, and this is something that really does need to be experienced and acknowledged. Once you’re done with that, you can sip on a hot cocoa and head on over to the Kiwanis Holiday Lights, where you can even check out Santa and his sleigh.

Illinois

When you think of Illinois, you probably immediately think of the Windy City, but there is so much more to this state than just the city of Chicago. This is especially true when it comes to the winter season, and it seems as though there are many people in this state who just love to get merry and bright and wish each other a merry Christmas.

Of course, there are also some Grinches who don’t want to get involved, but they can just stay at home, right? Some of the festivities to add to your itinerary this Christmas should be the Wonderland Express and Lightscape at Chicago’s Botanic Garden, the Belleville Christkindlmarkt, and a ride along with Santa on the Monticello Railway. Surely even the Scrooges would like these things?

Wisconsin

Wisconsin is known as America’s Dairyland, which probably comes in pretty handy during the festive period – because who doesn’t love a good ol’ cheese board? Although the people who love Christmas in this state would probably be a little disappointed in this placing, 27th place is better than 47th place – so we’re sorry about that, Hawaii.

Those who try to make the most out of this holiday has made the state a better place during the festive period, due to the fact that there are many things to do, and attendance is key to keeping these attractions and events running. To start with, this state is full of natural Christmas tree forests, so you can cut down your own tree to get the party started! Then, walk through the countless light displays that exist in this state.

Georgia

If you’ve never been to the state of Georgia, then you’re probably going to want to add it to your bucket list immediately. After all, while it’s Christmas spirit could certainly be improved, there’s no doubt about the fact that they really do try. Georgia is the perfect festive vacation because it offers a huge amount of fun activities, and one of those epic activities involves a trip to Six Flags Over Georgia.

What screams “Christmas” more than you quite literally screaming the word at the top of your lungs as you whirl around on a roller coaster? As if that wasn’t enough, Georgia is also home to the old-fashioned and colonial city of Dahlonega, which really does come alive at Christmas time. Their festive markets are second to none, and certainly ones that you should be adding to your list.

North Dakota

We’ve seen South Dakota already on this list, but it seems as though their northern neighbors just aren’t quite as Christmassy – and that’s perhaps something that should be worked on. If you live in North Dakota and struggle to get into the Christmas spirit every year, then it might be time to do some research into the state that you live in and realize that there is so much to see and do.

Whether you just go for a drive around all of the houses and check out the festive decorations, or whether you don your ice skates to go skating in the park, the opportunities are endless. Of course, you should always start by making a list and checking it twice. You’ve got to make sure you’re on the nice list, after all.

Vermont

Is there anything better than seeing the twinkling lights in the trees? You don’t even have to have full Christmas trees to get into the Christmas spirit with these things, because any ol’ twigs will do. The people of Vermont seems to have mastered this, but we have a feeling that some of them are going to be pretty upset to see that they are number 30 on the list of the best and worst states for Christmas spirit.

It seems as though more people should take advantage of the events and attractions that this state has on offer during these festivities because they can really make or break the reputation for your Christmas spirit. Attend those Christmas light switch ons, check out the festival of lights, eat all of the pie, and make sure you leave out some carrots for Rudolph…

Texas

The Lone Star State is known for a lot of things, but it seems as though its Christmas spirit isn’t one of them. Number 31 on the list? Did you see that coming, people from Texas? Of course, this standing might take some by surprise, considering there are many things to do in Texas during the holiday period.

Whether you want to check out the McAllen Holiday Parade, wonder at the Forth Worth Parade of Lights, or just visit Santa’s Wonderland, these things are bound to put you in the festive cheer. Sure, it might not be snowing, and it might not be freezing cold, but it’s better than nothing, right? You’ve gotta take each event as your very own Christmas gift from you to you. It’s the greatest gift of all.

Florida

Hands up if you immediately think of Disney World when you think of Florida? It’s not hard to understand why. After all, it’s one of the most famous attractions in the state, and it’s the reason that so many travel to this part of the country every single day. There’s no doubt about the fact that Disney World is full of Christmas magic, but do you think it’s all concentrated in one area?

Is that why the rest of the state is pretty glum? Well, maybe everyone who lives here should get the chance to head down Main Street USA and check out the lights and the carols, and experience what a magical Christmas should really be like. If that happened, we have a strong feeling that Florida would be much further up the list.

Nevada

Located amongst a whole load of desert is Nevada, and located amongst the desert-scape of this state is Las Vegas. Whether you know it as Sin City or the City that Never Sleeps, it’s fair to say that everything in this city is totally extra. They don’t do things by halves, and everything from the hotels to the attractions are either giant in size – like the replica of the Eiffel Tower – or bright and in-your-face.

Because of this, it should come as no surprise to learn that the people of Nevada also keep things in-your-face when it comes to the festive period. However, bright lights and baubles doesn’t automatically equate to Christmas cheer, and it seems as though the people of Nevada need to work on that before they can make their mark on this list.

Kentucky

Known for their fried chicken, we can imagine that the people of Kentucky have a hard time switching to turkey when the holiday season comes around. Maybe they could do some KFT to make up for it? Although Kentucky isn’t exactly screaming about its place on this list, there’s no doubt about the fact that there are many positives to a holiday season in this state.

One of those positives is the fact that there is so much to see and do – as long as you know where to look. You can check out the Southern Lights Holiday Festival, you can head to the ice skating rink at Triangle Park, or you could even head to the ballet to check out The Nutcracker. We bet that will cheer you up in no time.

South Carolina

We’ve already seen North Carolina on this list, but it seems as though South Carolina just doesn’t fare as well in the Christmas cheer department. By looking at this picture, it’s clear to see that they know how to work their twinkle lights, and they certainly know how to decorate their towns – but do they really have what it takes to win over the Grinches who live here?

Well, it seems as though they are certainly trying. There are oodles of things to do in South Carolina during the winter months, and they become even more exciting when Christmas is coming. You can head out to watch Christmas parades, you can light candles through the parks, you can spread cheer through caroling, or you can just sit back, relax, and drink some Eggnog. Either way, you’ve gotta have a good time.

Kansas

We think that we can probably guess the reason for this placing. After all, the people who live in Kansas are probably just annoyed that they have been whirled into a storm and taken to the Yellow Brick Road with their trusty dog companion. We get it, we’ve been waiting for that day too. However, if you’re bored of waiting for that day to come and want to spend your holiday period more wisely, then you can certainly add these things to your list.

That’s because Kansas comes alive during Christmas time, and the lights alone are enough to put a smile on your face. However, the countless events will also help you out in that respect. You just have to check out the Winfield Isle of Lights, and a trip on the Polar Express is a must.

Utah

While there are many states in the country that see more elderly citizens make their way along the street, there are also those who fully embrace family life – and Utah is one of them. Full of families who all want to enjoy what their state has to offer, it’s a surprise that Utah is so far down this list. Well, you’ll be glad to hear that there are oodles of options to get everyone out of the house during the festive period in Utah.

You can head to South Jordan and Provo to check out Christmas in Color, you can go back in time at the Dickens Christmas Festival, and you can even sing along to classic Christmas carols in the squares of your nearby town or city. There’s gonna be enough Christmas spirit to go around, for sure.

Maryland

Every state is known for something, and if you’re familiar with Maryland, you might know that this place is known for its fishing and its natural gases. Of course, these products aren’t really synonymous with Christmas, which is probably why only a small number of people really get into the Christmas spirit over there.

They do have some things happening over the holidays, though, and many of them can provide you with mulled wine, amazing decorations, and some of the biggest Christmas trees you ever did see. What more could you want? It’s time to add the likes of Frosty Friday, Christmas in Leonardtown Square, and the Victorian Christmas to your festive bucket list because you’re definitely going to want to give them all a go. Yes, even the Scrooges amongst you.

Nebraska

While there’s no doubt about the fact that Nebraska isn’t at the end of this list, it seems as though the guys who live here should maybe work on their Christmas spirit a little bit. You’d think that the giant Christmas trees, all of the lights, the present-buying, and the general excitement making its way through the air would be enough – but we understand that some people need a little more encouragement, and that’s okay.

If you live in Nebraska or are visiting Nebraska over the holidays, you’ll be happy to know that there are things that you can do to keep yourself feeling as Christmas spirited as possible. Head to a Christmas tree farm and pick out your very own tree, head out to see the Omaha Lights Festival, or just embrace the magic of watching Christmas movies with your family.

Michigan

Just sitting outside of the bottom 10 is Michigan, and while you may have a little smile on your face because of this, you shouldn’t be too proud of yourselves. After all, there are so many ways that you could add some more festive cheer into your lives – and they can all be found right there in your very home state!

The people who live here love a good festive light or two, and alongside their commitment to lighting up their stores and streets, they also create candle walks and even the Wonderland of Lights in Potter Park Zoo. We’re not quite sure why you wouldn’t take advantage of these things and why you wouldn’t want to embrace every inch of Christmas, but maybe you just need some more convincing. This will probably do that for you.

Louisiana

Hands up if you live in Louisiana? Hands up if you’re also a little disappointed at your placement on this list? Well, we don’t really blame you. While there’s no doubt about the fact that your state has oodles to offer the people who live there and even the people who visit, your lack of Christmas spirit leaves us feeling a little sad.

However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t people in Louisiana who aren’t trying to turn the Scrooges into chuckling Christmas lovers. Those who need a little pump up in their Christmas spirit can make their way to the many festivals of light, they can check out the Celebration in the Oaks in New Orleans, and even light a traditional bonfire in New Orleans to help Papa Noel find his way to the houses of those on the nice list.

Idaho

It seems as though there are more Scrooges in this country than we first thought, but did you know that Idaho actually has a law that restricts Christmas gift-giving? Yes, if you live in Idaho and have ever thought about gifting someone a box of candy that weighs more than 50 pounds, it’s a good thing that you didn’t. That’s because it’s illegal!

We don’t know why this kind of law exists, but if that’s how the people of Idaho feel, then we’re not sure there’s any hope for them left. Of course, if you did really want to turn things around and have another go at this festive lark, there are a few things in your state to take note of. You know, like the tallest living Christmas tree in the US that stands in Coeur D’Alene.

Alaska

Okay, we just don’t understand this one. This is Alaska we’re talking about. This is the place that is covered in ice and snow. This is the place that is even home to a city quite literally called the North Pole. This is the place that features the country’s largest fiberglass Santa Claus. How on Earth are you guys so far down the list?

We would have thought that Alaska would have been straight in the top 10 for this list, and we would have never dreamed that they would be in the last 10 instead. The only thing we could possibly think is that the very few people who live in this state are probably sick and tired of seeing the ice and snow throughout the year. By the time the Christmas season comes around, we doubt they even care anymore.

California

When you think of California, you probably think of the bright lights of Los Angeles, the impressive coastline of the Big Sur, and probably the lives of the rich and famous. What you probably don’t think of is Christmas spirit. It might have something to do with the fact that the weather is pretty warm and the landscape isn’t really befitting the thick snow and the cabins of the North Pole.

Despite the fact that California isn’t exactly the most Christmassy location in the world, that shouldn’t stop anyone from getting in the festive spirit and making the most out of it. You can watch the Harbor Christmas Parade in San Diego, you can take a train ride to the (metaphorical) North Pole, or you can just check out the many Christmas trees dotted around. The opportunities are endless.

Montana

There’s something so beautiful about Montana, isn’t there? With the imposing mountains nearby, these also add a sense of wonder and magic to the Christmas period. So, why are you guys from Montana so far down the list? Where’s your Christmas spirit? Many visitors make their way to this state over the holiday period to stay in the snow-capped mountains and rent out log cabins with cozy fires, but it seems as though the locals aren’t quite as impressed.

Maybe you guys are fed up with the snow by the time Christmas comes along? If you do want to improve this ranking, then maybe it’s time to check out the Polar Express in Lewistown and head along to see the lighting of the Christmas tree in Whitefish. You never know, you might even enjoy yourself.

Connecticut

If you’re from Connecticut, you’ll either be disappointed by your ranking as the 46th state on the list, or you’ll be over the moon – because you’re the ultimate Scrooge. While many stores and houses seem to make the most of the twinkling lights and Christmas decorations, it seems as though others just don’t get as much festive cheer out of this state as they could do.

After all, there’s so much to see and do during the holiday season! One of the best places to start is at one of the many festivals of light that are on offer in this state, such as the Holiday Light Fantasia in Goodwin Park. Once you’ve done that, check out the Greenwich Reindeer Festival, where you can size up the reindeer that will be pulling Santa’s sleigh this year.

Hawaii

When you think of Hawaii, you probably think of crystal clear waters, amazing beaches, and oodles of rainforest to get lost in. It’s one of the most tropical areas of the United States of America – and the last time we checked, Santa doesn’t get his kicks in that kind of climate. We don’t think the elves or the reindeer do, either.

For that reason, it might not surprise you too much to learn that Hawaii isn’t too hot on the whole festive cheer. It seems as though the people who live here don’t celebrate it in the way that others do, and this leaves many visitors feeling a little disheartened. You might find people wearing the odd Santa hat every now and then, and they might even turn a palm tree into a Christmas tree if you’re lucky.

Wyoming

A well-known fact about Wyoming is that this state produces more coal than any other state in the United States, and we have a feeling that all of that coal is going to their heads. In fact, we reckon they’re putting it straight in their stocking – because these guys have a very questionable amount of festive spirit! Coming in at number 48, those who live in Wyoming might be a little disappointed to see that their Christmas spirit is less than desirable.

After all, it’s not like they haven’t got anything to maintain their festive cheer. This state is home to countless Christmas parades, and you can guarantee that almost every town square in this state will come with its own giant Christmas tree, some majorly twinkly lights, and maybe even some presents under there…

Delaware

Okay, this one must be a joke. Delaware is one of the most beautiful states out there, so why are you not embracing the Christmas spirit? Is the Grinch lurking in your mountains and making you all grumpy? Well, you might want to flip your Christmas cheer-less-ness into some serious Christmas cheer, because there is a huge amount for you to be doing in your state this holiday season.

You can make your way to Longwood Gardens and check out their incredible Christmas tree, you can head to Cape Henlopen State Park to marvel at their Winter WonderFEST, and you can even take a ride through the snowy trees and mountains on the Santa Claus Express. How can you not be cheerful with all of that on offer? You must be doing something wrong.

New Hampshire

Where’s your Christmas spirit, New Hampshire? Have you lost it somewhere? Did you mean to take the silver medal on the other half of the list? As the state with the second least amount of Christmas spirit, we have a feeling that people won’t be making their way to New Hampshire this year to get their festivities on. Instead, it seems as though this place is full of Scrooges who just don’t like Christmas.

Now that today’s modern lives have taken over, people are no longer heading out into the streets of New Hampshire and caroling the night away, and they’re certainly not knocking on their neighbors’ door to offer them some mince pieces. However, it doesn’t have to stay that way. Why not add in some festive cheer of your own, New Hampshire? It’s time for change.

New Jersey

If you’re from New Jersey, then you should probably just bow your head in shame right now. That’s because you sit right at the bottom of the list as the state with the least amount of Christmas cheer – and we just expected so much more of you. While we know that you’re the Garden State of America, we thought that you would at least have some space in your flower pots for some Santa.

Instead, it seems that the only thing that you have room for in your stocking is a lump of coal. Of course, this standing is quite surprising. While this state is home to numerous Christmas festivals and holiday lights, we guess the hot weather, the beaches, and the lack of snow just doesn’t get you in the mood for what the holiday season is all about.
