One of the best things about Greece is the different islands all have their own feel, meaning that a trip to each will always offer something new. There are so many reasons that it’s a nation on many people’s bucket lists. Perhaps you’ve found yourself asking: when is the best time to visit Greece?

Low season runs from November to March
If you want to save money, then you might think about heading somewhere in the low season. However, is this really the best time to visit Greece? Maybe not if you want to experience what the islands have to offer. Many hotels shut their doors between November and March as there isn’t the demand of tourists to keep them open. Then, there’s the fact that temperatures drop considerably, and some places experience snow – not the first weather many of us picture when we think of Greece. Just because many businesses close doesn’t mean we should forget about Greece until the summer. Smaller bed and breakfasts or private rentals can be a great way to get away from the rest of the world and clear your mind.

Shoulder season runs from April to May and September to October
Shoulder season has earned its name thanks to shouldering the high season. Get it? These run from April to May and September to October and can be the best time to visit Greece if you want to explore the traditional culture on offer across the islands. The weather is still great, but it can be a little cooler than temperatures reached in the high season. Thankfully, this means there are usually fewer crowds. Fewer people means we can enjoy more of the culture on offer without getting lost in the crowd, making local coffee shops, traditional live-music venues, and seafood taverns great places to spend the days. In fact, many sites will offer free entry to locations on the first Sunday of the month outside of high season, meaning you could save even more money.

High season runs from June to August
High season is always the busiest place to visit anywhere in the world, but that doesn’t mean we should avoid Greece from June to August. In fact, these are considered to be the best months to visit for families or groups of friends who want to relax under the sun and party the nights away. Temperatures regularly reach over 85 degrees Fahrenheit, meaning there is plenty of sun on offer at all hours of the day. Although the beaches are busy, it’s the perfect vibe for anyone looking to get the summer holiday feel from their vacation. We just have to pay a little more for the luxury as accommodation prices are at their peak and excursions might cost a little more than they do the rest of the year.
So, when is the best time to visit Greece? It all depends on what you want from the islands as each season brings something new to the table, including different weather, opportunities, and crowd levels.
