Why Everyone Is Heading To This Street In Vietnam

The world is full of amazing destinations that travelers flock to on a regular basis, but that’s normally because they feature a major attraction that people want to tick off their bucket list. Adventure seekers make their way to Paris to check out the Eiffel Tower, they head to New York for Broadways, and they even make their way to Peru for Machu Picchu. However, it seems as though there’s a new attraction on the block, as everyone is now heading to this street in Vietnam to get their traveling fix.

Doing it for the ‘Gram

Nowadays, we live in a world where social media reigns supreme. It seems as though you can’t walk down the street without seeing someone with their nose buried in their phones, and taking pictures for the ‘Gram becomes a regular activity. Travelers are also taking advantage of cameras and social media, and selfies in amazing or strange locations is becoming even more popular. In fact, the selfie is the reason why so many people are no descending on this one particular street.

An impressive location

Vietnam has always been a popular destination for tourists, and you only have to touch down in this country to come across travelers who are taking photographs of important buildings and having selfies with the locals. The country is often seen as the perfect mix of old and new, and that’s exactly what this particular street in the capital city of Hanoi has to offer. That’s because this small street in the midst of the Old Quarter actually comes complete with its own railway track running right through the middle of it.

Taking a picture

Because it’s a bizarre sight, tourists from across the world make their way to these train tracks every single day to take photographs on the tracks. It’s since been informally named as the “Selfie Street” of Vietnam, and a quick search on Instagram will fill your screen with countless photos. It’s become somewhat of a tourist attraction in Hanoi, and the locals have to do their best to weave in and out of those who want to grab the perfect shot.

A few dangers

While there’s no harm in taking a few photos here and there, it seems as though this newfound fame for the street has caused a few issues. Locals are keen to point out the dangers in terms of this new activity, as playing on any train track can be fatal. That’s especially true in this street, as the train tracks are still operational and trains make their way down the tracks every single day. When there are people standing in the way, this becomes a cause for concern, and locals want to avoid an incident at all costs.

Hanoi will always be a popular tourist destination, but it seems as though travelers making their way to this “selfie street” need to be careful and keep their eyes on the tracks, rather than their phones. After all, trains aren’t the easiest things to stop in their tracks.
