When you think of a vacation to Mexico, what do you imagine? While many of us probably have our own ideas, there are plenty of jaw-dropping places in Mexico you had no idea existed that shed a new light on the breathtaking country.

Grutas Tolantongo
Even getting to Grutas Tolantongo is an experience that many miss. You need to pass through mountains before you stumble upon the hot pools. That’s right; we said hot pools. They are surrounded by lush fauna as well as a turquoise stream that runs into the pools themselves. Many people miss this wonder as the closest city is Mexico City – and that’s five hours away. Thankfully, one trip to Grutas Tolantongo is enough to push all of those worries out of your mind.
Hierve El Agua
It can be easy to mistake Hierve El Agua for a painting rather than a real-life masterpiece. There are two natural infinity pools, as well as one of only two petrified waterfalls in the world. They are formed over thousands of years as water pushes natural minerals over the edge of a cliff. This then sets and make it look as though there is a permanent waterfall. A trip to Hierve El Agua is more than just jaw-dropping – it also lets you enjoy an incredibly rare sight.

The Suytun Cenote
A cenote is an underground body of water. However, the Suytun Cenote in Mexico is a little different. There is a small hole in the top of the cave that lets down an incredible beam of light during the day. The government has even built a platform that lets people walk out to the middle of the water to enjoy the light in all of its glory. This sure is one of the most picturesque parts of Mexico.
Edward James’ Surrealist Garden – Las Pozas
It can be tough to picture paradise. However, these gardens sure do help to bring the image to life. You get to the surrealist garden by venturing through the Mexican jungle. Here, it can be easy to see the incredible atmosphere that Edward James was trying to create all those years ago. There are stairs that lead nowhere and doors that open to nothing that are all surrounded by waterfalls, plants, and elaborately decorated buildings.

Bacalar
If you want to experience the Maldives without going there, then you might want to take a trip to Bacalar. It’s around five hours from Cancun. This means that plenty of people never even stumble upon the hidden gem, so you’ll mostly have the place to yourself. There are plenty of places to explore the beach as you take in the calm waters and surprising serenity of the area. You may just need to rent a car to get there in the first place.
There are plenty of ways to explore and enjoy Mexico. However, there are also many jaw-dropping places in Mexico you had no idea existed. Why have the same vacation as everyone else when you could enjoy some breathtaking sights instead?
