Springdale, Utah
Sitting just outside Zion National Park and with a small population of just over 600 people, Springdale is a beautiful town with plenty to offer. Springdale was named one of the 20 prettiest towns in the United States in 2008, and with its breathtaking mountain views, it is a must-visit for anybody that appreciates the beauty that nature has to offer. There is plenty to do for the whole family, including outdoor activities, an IMAX theatre, restaurants, galleries, and bookstores.
Leavenworth, Washington
With a multitude of events all year round, Leavenworth has plenty to offer any kind of traveler. With the town center having a Bavarian feel, it’s not one to miss during Oktoberfest with three full weekends and four venues of activities for everyone to enjoy. There are lots of things to do all year round while visiting, including hiking trails, museums, bird watching, shops, ski trails, and a horse ranch.
Astoria, Oregon
The first American settlement west of the Rocky Mountains, Astoria is a must-go for anyone with an interest in history. Situated on the south shore of the Columbia River, there is plenty of stunning scenery and lots to do. The Astoria Riverwalk is a great way to experience Astoria, along with many museums, the Astoria-Megler bridge, a brewery, a winery, and the Fort Stevens state park are a handful of the things that Astoria has to offer.
Wolfeboro, New Hampshire
Situated beside Lake Winnipesaukee, Wolfeboro is a must-visit during the summer months and popular to many. There is plenty on offer to ensure a fun visit, with lots of outdoor activities, both water sports and on dry land, a wellness and beauty spa, museums, restaurants, and shops. With so much to do, you’d find it hard to get bored here.
Healdsburg, California
Located in Sonoma County in California’s drinking capital, and home to three of the top wineries in the United States, Healdsburg is a wine lover’s paradise. With walking tours, drink tasting rooms, and vineyards, you’d be hard-pressed to find somewhere better to enjoy the art of drink. If drinking isn’t your thing, then there is also an award-winning bakery, Savor Healdsburg food tours, restaurants, and outdoor activities all in a beautiful setting that anybody is sure to enjoy.
Sometimes the hidden gems have more to offer than the well-known tourist destinations, with plenty to do for any kind of traveler. Hopefully, taking a look at a few underrated American towns that are a must-visit has shown that just because somewhere isn’t well known, doesn’t mean it’s not worth a trip.
